9. Rethink the Hotelicopter

Here it is:

The World’s first hotel helicopter or  hotelicopter.

It is  the largest helicopter ever made.

It’s a  modified Soviet-made Mil V-12.

And it’s BIG!!!

Lots of maths went into building this chopper.

For airplanes the lift comes from the wings.

For helicopters the lift comes from the rotor props.

But the lift is greater for the prop moving into the flight path than the prop moving away from the flight path.

To overcome this problem the rotor props change pitch (blade angle) during each 360 degree rotation.

Problem No. 1: 

It has the capacity for 18 – 36 passengers plus crew. 

Now compare this to the A380 Airbus. 

It can carry up to 850 passengers.

Problem No. 2:

The hotelicopter has a maximum range of approx 1,000km or 620 miles.

But wait. At a maximum speed of approx 250 km/hr that’s only 4 hours sleep before you land again to refuel.

Now compare this to the A380 Aribus again. It has a Range of 15,700 km or nearly 10,000 miles.
